Can't install docker – Permission denied?

I’m trying to install docker-machine following the guide.

$ curl -L`uname -s`-`uname -m` >/usr/local/bin/docker-machine && \
> chmod +x /usr/local/bin/docker-machine

  • How to test dockerignore file?
  • Docker letsencrypt does not appear to be creating webroot files
  • Backing up data volume containers off machine
  • connecting to services on docker host from docker container
  • getting a ptty for docker start
  • Deploy .war on tomcat Docker container
  • bash: /usr/local/bin/docker-machine: Permission denied

    Why? How can resolve this?

    I’m on Xubuntu 16.04.

  • Gitlab always shows “No container image repositories in Container Registry for this project.”
  • Could not initialize corosync configuration API error 12
  • Docker ps -a doesn't show a stopped mysql client running container
  • Can't get my php container to connect to the mysql container
  • Is it possible run syslog inside Docker and expose that to the host as host's syslog daemon?
  • Install node in Dockerfile?
  • One Solution collect form web for “Can't install docker – Permission denied?”

This is discussed in issue 652

    Either you chown that folder

    sudo chown -R $(whoami) /usr/local/bin

Or (better), as in this PR

Note: If you get a “Permission denied” error, your /usr/local/bin directory probably isn’t writable and you’ll need to install Compose as the superuser.
Run sudo -i, then the two commands above, then exit.

Docker will be the best open platform for developers and sysadmins to build, ship, and run distributed applications.
